About the USS Potomac Association

The Association for the Preservation of the Presidential Yacht Potomac is more easily known as the USS Potomac Association and owns and operates Franklin D. Roosevelt’s historic presidential yacht, Potomac, at Jack London Square in Oakland, Calif.

A nonprofit, 501(c) charitable organization, the USS Potomac Association is not associated with any government entity or political party.  Founded in 1995, the association was created as the business entity to manage and operate Potomac following her 14-year restoration and initial start up for the general public.

The Association has a 22-member Board of Governors who are leaders in the maritime, business, and legal fields, or are retired attorneys, educators, and community leaders.  The Board meets six times per year (semi-monthly) and oversees the management of the organization.

The staff includes a full-time executive director, and part-time administrative assistant, lead captain, maintenance shipkeepers, finance professionals, and our seasonal crew members.   Volunteers hold key positions managing the volunteer docent and tour programs, student cruise program, gift shop, and charter bookings.
